northsouth is a new london-based label, started between 3 friends. this first release sees frankfrurts chris geschwindner take charge on the north side and henry hyde on the south. each artist has provided 2 tracks, showcasing different sounds in their production styles and is a strong start for the new imprint.

brian tennessee claflin, aka prix, was a radical and fiery figure who worked on the intersecting fringes of berlins art and nightlife scenes since he moved there in 2006 up until his tragic death in 2014 at the age of 33. he ran the notorious sunday soirée pork at ficken3000, and left behind a small but very powerful body of art, developing a cult following of friends, family, and fans in a brief but intense period of frenetic activity. between 2009 and 2013, brian and his friend, the american cum berlin musician and producer snax, produced music and sound collages. all these productions met somewhere at the intersection of dance, voodoo, bitchiness and punk and several were used for brians performance pieces. the brian tennessee claflin foundation and snaxs random records are very proud to finally release two tracks from these sessions, as well as remixes, digital and as vinyl ep, in a limited edition of 500 hand-numbered copies.

the legendary west end records kick off 2017 with the a brand new re-edits series inviting like-minded producers with an underground thirst and a deep understanding of house & disco culture to collaborate on a very special project. first up, wolf music man medlar, applying his dancefloor know-how to west end’s rich archive of classic disco and boogie. hand picking four personal favourites, medlar reworks them perfectly for current club sets. picking out dub sections and skilfully reworking & extending them proving exactly why medlar has been such a draw to labels like delusions of grandeur and for discos only. “i put these edits together for myself and a few friends to play in our dj sets. west end was one of the key stepping stones to what would later become house music and for many is the definitive sound of early 80s new york. i d argue that it s aged better than any other label of that era and if you re relatively new to the label or know it inside out, the catalogue can likely still provide something new.” these four sublime new edits from medlar showcase his passion for digging deep, knowledge of house history and skills as a producer.

solid gold playaz hails from winsconsin usa. the duo, kenny gino & big mike are veterans of the midwest rave, techno and house scene and have released their incredible productions on moods & grooves, kanzerlamt, soulfuric trax, silver network, losonofo records. minds beneath atlantis was originally released in 2003 by jeff ks silver networks. jerome (of still music) immediately fell for this deep house 4 tracker and that record has been steadily in jeromes crates through the years. jerome remembers reaching out to kenny gino back then and they ve been friends since then. this reissue is a teaser for a larger project with solid gold playaz that will be released on still music later this year.

it’s hard to get a handle on nigerian musicians nash dodoo, charlie cuul and jonas caulley. in 1980 they released an album of face-melting gospel boogie as the bml chapels. and in the same year, calling themselves the beta yama group, they put out free love, a belated love letter to san francisco’s summer of love and an album altogether focused on more worldly concerns. free love is a small slice of haight-ashbury transported to the polygram studios in lagos. ‘te revoir’ is mamas and papas jamming with sergeant pepper’s beatles. ‘free love’ offers a respectful nod towards je t’aime-era serge gainsbourg. sure, ‘revolution’ gets hard and funky and ‘rain’ flirts briefly with a calypso reggae sound, but the majority of the album is cheesecloth and flowers in your hair. insanely rare – and worth buying for the freaky cover art alone – free love is a funky, reverb heavy call for love, peace and sweet, sweet loving. what more could you want from an album?

for the past four decades, a growing cult of soul music collectors have sought two obscure lps and a handful of extremely rare 45s released on the vanity record label lad productions, inc. between the late seventies and the mid eighties by the mysterious south side chicago singer/song writer larry dixon. larry s raw songs capture the transition from r&b to boogie-down as disco was rapidly becoming extinct. they also perfectly illustrate larrys ability to overcome his environment and discrimination, transcended by his determination to write and produce music. with the support of his faithful musicians, larry s success was only hindered by lack of airplay and promotion, but his talent shines through. this is the story of larry dixon, his label lad productions, inc., and his friends and family throughout four decades of music in chicags toughest neighborhoods. jerome derradji is proud to reactivate past due records the boogie funk division of still music to release this fantastic archive what many consider to be the holy grail of chicago funk, boogie and soul.

new label funky fungi preps its debut release for this march, featuring two original tracks from label boss georg stuby and his production trio the gravy underground. hailing from zurich switzerland, georg stuby is a longstanding house and techno dj, producer and teacher. his new creation, funky fungi is a vinyl based record label working as an outlet for georg and his friends to release their music. aside from the solo release, this ep also features the gravy underground, a collaborative project with georg’s friends christopher lawrenz & jonas, who already remixed one of georg’s tracks on his last formresonance ep. the opening track ‘metro bass’ has a dusty analog feel and delves into the depths with shuffling percussion and reverberated effects which spiral out of control, all saturated in white noise giving off the spatial aesthetic associated with an echo chamber. next up, the gravy underground production trio create a mystical journey in ‘keep it gravy’, as minimal kicks chug alongside off kilter hats and twisted vocal snippets that are delicately layered with field recordings.

the brainchild of the so-called fairy godmother of house” abigail adams, during the mid-80s and early 90s movin records defined the new jersey sound. a regular at the iconic roxy roller disco in new york, adams skate-shop-turned-record-store was instrumental in supplying club resident tony humphries with the hottest records that everybody wanted to dance to. danny krivit, larry levan and timmy regisford were also adams friends and regulars at the store.

reissue of this very rare gospel/disco masterpiece, originally released at only 1000 private-press copies, and surprisingly unknown and underrated until today. calvin bernard rhone, a native of los angeles, has been ministering in word and song for more than 40 years throughout the us and abroad. he acknowledges that he is passionate about music, yet purposed for ministry. beginning his professional singing career at age eight, he has shared the stage with possibly every major gospel artist from the 60’s to present. in 1983, he released the album intimate friends on his own label, c.b.r. records. recently discovered by dj and collector charles maurice, the lp has never received the attention and fame it deserves. it was anyway obvious for the dj and favorite recordings, that some of the tracks it includes would for sure become real classics for all disco and funk music lovers and deejays. officially licensed to calvin b. rhone himself, its today reissued for the first time, as a 3 tracks vinyl single.

phonica records is extremely proud to unveil the next release on its special editions imprint the stunning debut album vuduwave by niños indigo. niños indigo is the alias of audiovisual artist valeria hernandez. developed over the course of a month, the album was recorded in hernandezs home country of chile and recorded in a single week, resulting in a flowing, organic yet otherwordly listening experience. valeria explains: this record is a compilation of influences that have been inside me a long time, they keep coming back, afro drums, hindu instruments, candombe, psychedelia in south america. the rhythm of what surrounds me, the lake, the forest near where i live, the calm that surrounds it, the love of my friends and daughter. all of these feelings are what i like to put in my songs, a reminder to value the simple, to seize the resources that i have and to try and free myself of whats on my mind. originally released on digital and cassette label discos cetaceos in 2014, its a recording that truly deserves to be given a new lease of life on vinyl

david lynch twin peaks kinofilm von 1992 erhielt 3 internationale auszeichnungen (alle für den kult-soundtrack von angelo badalamenti) und 5 weitere nominierungen. nach dem serien soundtrack und vor der neuen serienfortsetzung in 2017 erscheint auch dieser nun im neuen deluxe-format. das 180g doppel-vinyl erscheint in remastered qualität in kirschroter farbe und befindet sich in einem gatefold-sleeve, das wiederum von einem schwarz lackierten, formschön ausgestanzten aussenschuber umgeben und mit einem obi strip komplettiert wird. das neue artwork wurde sowohl von regisseur david lynch, als auch vom komponisten angelo badalamenti freigegeben. die neuen sleevenotes stammen von filmkritiker mark kermode.
